COURSE DESCRIPTION

The students will learn the basics of Carnatic vocal music and proper singing techniques.

Music listening/history – The students will listen to a variety of vocal genres to learn about the elements of music, composers and their place in history, and different cultures.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

In this course, students will be trained in the fundamentals of Carnatic vocals that include Varisaigal, Alankarams, Geethams, Swarajathi, and Simple Carnatic Krithis. This course also involves basic theory lessons and voice training.

 PRE-REQUISITES

Candidatesneed to be able to sing in selected shruti/key and in 3 speed/kalas

  • Tri kalas: 1st kala – swaras per beat, 2nd kala – 2 swaras per beat, 3rd kala – 4 swaras per beat
